The embossment is a technique that creates relief patterns on materials such as paper, tissue, leather, wood, rubber, and soft metals (like aluminum and tinfoil). This effect is obtained through pressure with special machines called “embossing machines” or simply embossers.
Embossing may have different purposes, for example:
- Decorative: to embellish material surfaces.
- Functional: to imprint trademarks or drawings.
- Imitative: to simulate the aspect of finer materials.
- Technical: to give the material specific mechanical characteristics.
